Water Capping Project

February 11th, 2010 · No Comments

Lapu Lapu City /November 2009 –RC Central Mactan Develops another three wells completing 23 within 6 months time in Lapu Lapu City water projects continue through Simplified Grants of Rotary District 3860 and various donations from Rotary Clubs all over the world.

Developing a Community Service through District Simplified Grants (DSG) project is a great way to further Rotary’s Avenue of Community Service. A DSG project is created when Rotary clubs from request their district to support one of their communities. This collaboration helps Rotary clubs undertake more ambitious projects that improve lives while fostering local fellowship and understanding. In addition to providing volunteers, clubs can support Barangay projects by offering financial assistance, donating goods, or becoming a partner in Humanitarian projects.

Rotary International and Rotary Club of Central Mactan (RCCM) have launched a collaborative effort to implement water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in the developing Community Service Projects in Barangays of Lapu Lapu City.

Rotary Club of Central Mactan has demonstrated the ability to carry out effective water and sanitation projects. The existing wells were capped with a steel reinforced concrete lid.
An artesian pump placed on the side providing easy access to clean water; The lid provides safety and prevents debris from entering the well. Small children are no longer at risk and the open well can no longer be a breeding ground for potential dengue.
Twenty Three (23) new wells have been provided as of February 2010 benefitting more than 400 families.

Global issues such as literacy, hunger, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and access to clean water affect us all. Rotarians understand this, and with over 32,000 Rotary clubs worldwide, Rotarians are leading the way in their communities to find solutions to global concerns.

You can help too by becoming involved in our Community Service Projects. Contact us today!

23 Barangays received Sanitation & Water well capping and new Artesian well pumps.

Donation of Club Plaque

February 11th, 2010 · No Comments

The Rotary emblem on this plaque was a donation from the Japanese Rotary Club of Gobo East Wakayama District 2640.

Here President David Poley displays the completed plaque and presents a Rotarian from RC Kanan East District 2640 Japan to acknowledge them for the generous donation towards RC Central Mactan’s Well Capping water and sanitation projects two years in a row.

President Christopher Bennetts decided it would be excellent for a plaque with the four way test for permanent display at club meetings. Vice President David Poley agreed and together donated the money to create the plaque with the four way test and the donated emblem at the top.

Child Crossing Sign Project

February 11th, 2010 · No Comments

Crossing Kit with Sister club RC Puerto Princesa City , Palawan.

In 2008 Past President Chris decided we could make a difference. He noticed each year in the Philippines thousands of pedestrians are hit by vehicles due to inadequate pedestrian crossings. Many of these are children.

Many communities do make an effort to ensure the safety of children crossing the road such as this school crossing in the Barangay of Gun-Ob on Mactan.

There are unfortunately many school crossings on the islands of Palawan and Cebu that currently do not provide a guard to assist children crossing busy roads at the commencement and end of the school day.

This is a great project because it is assisting the local government and communities in improving a service they already provide. We know this project is going to save life and limb.

Help us sustain this project by donating TODAY a set of 5 or more kits.

Each Kit cost roughly $ 30.00 consisting of a Hi Visible Jackets Safety Vest, Stop sign Whistle, and neck bands for whistles.

All presented to the Recipient with a training manual and power point presentation disk.

Literacy project

February 11th, 2010 · No Comments

Donations to the AlbertSwitzer Foundation of Books and Medical supplies addressing Literacy and Health.

Here is a project that does not require the direct donation of money. Have your club or organization start a book drive to collect second hand English language educational and children’s reading books and send them to us so that we can distribute them to needy schools and day care centers.

We know that many school and Libraries dispose of books each year for a variety of reasons. For some schools it can be due to a change in curriculum or a requirement to dispose of books in order to receive new funding. Other reasons include limited storage and the need to make room for new books or simply the books are retired due to slight wear and tear. Many people have books at home they no longer want as their children have grown older.

This is such a simple yet potentially life transforming project. You will be amazed how easy it is to collect books. Package them up and ship them to us and we will do the rest.

We will be taking photographs of every school and day care center donation and publishing these on our website.

These girls are reading books we donated to the the Albert Switzer Foundation Learning Center for Orphanage. With your help we want to put books in the hands of children all over Mactan Island.

If you prefer not to collect and ship books then we are more than happy to receive a donation of money to be used to purchase books locally.
